Welcome to your year 1 class blog Penguins! A virtual space for us to share our learning, ask questions and enjoy discussion. I hope that you will all have a go at leaving a comment this term.
This Term we will be thinking about ourselves, our bodies and most of all what makes us special…Can you find out what the word unique means and tell us what makes you unique?
This Week we will be looking at the traditional tale Stone Soup. In class we will be exploring the story using drama techniques. What do you like about the story? Is there annoying you don’t like? What puzzles you about it? Why not comment and share your ideas. Also try reading, retelling and discussing the story at home with an adult. Perhaps you could even make your own stone soup!
This week we will be looking at a new text called Splish, Splash, Splosh. It will tell us the real story of how water gets to our homes. We are lucky because fresh water every time we turn on the tap. That does not mean we should waste it though! Every time we have a bath or shower we use about 100 litres of water. Every time we flush the toilet we use 20 litres. Why not try keeping a water diary for your house for a week.
You will need paper and felt tips.

Over the next few weeks in science we will be thinking about what different objects are made out of. Take a look around your home and see what you can find that is made of wood, plastic and metal. Add a comment to tell us what you found.

This coming term we will be thinking about the UK, London and the local area. Can you find out what the word ‘community’ means? Ask your adults at home perhaps, or look it up in a dictionary. What do you like about your community? Why is community important? The first 10 responses will earn a prize!

We are very lucky to have a special visit from the illustrator and author Jo Williamson on Thursday. She will be giving a special talk to the children in Nursery, Reception and Year 1. Also remember to return your slips if you would like to purchase your own copy of one her book and get it signed by her on the day
